A Month of Fasting & Prayer

Every Thursday in the month of August

As we face a global pandemic, economic instability, racial inequities, and uncertainty in our country, we believe now is the time that we as a church cry out to our God collectively through fasting and prayer. So for the month of August, we invite you to join Living Faith Bible Fellowship for a month of fasting and prayer.
Our fast will be taking place every Thursday in the month of August. The first day being August 6th and concluding on August 27th. Your time can be early morning, mid-day, or late at night. The time or length of your fast is not as important as the strength of God to move and transform you as you fast. Throughout the fast, we encourage you to find a praying/fasting partner, and if you don’t have one please reach out to your Small Group Leader or one of our leaders to partner with you through the month.
Email us at admin@livingbyfaith.us if you need a prayer partner.

We know that prayer and fasting intensifies our dependence on God by weakening our dependence on other things. So as we
commit the month of August to fasting and prayer we’d like to provide you with a guide as you spend time with the Lord.

Before you read through the prayer guide, know that this will be a time of spiritual renewal, guidance, and healing. Through fasting and prayer we humble ourselves before God so the Holy Spirit will stir our souls, awaken our churches, and heal our land. Ask the Holy Spirit to clarify His leading and objectives for your prayer fast.

Below you’ll find a guide that will help you as we unite as a church to fast and pray about these specific topics.

Living Faith Fasting & Prayer Guide.

At Living Faith “Love is our Life” is the DNA of our church as we pursue our mission. That mission is still the same even now with COVID. We’ve said that for Living Faith that means 3 things: Love God, Love One Another and Love Neighbor. Each week we’ll focus on these 3 pillars with an secondary focus topic to pray for.

August 6th (Week One) Love God - MATTHEW 22:37-38

Pray specifically that the Lord would be the object of your affections, and that you would avail yourself of the means of grace available to you at Living Faith: Small Group, Prayer Gatherings, Bible Studies, and Services.

Secondary Focus:
● Pray for safety, protection, and peace in a COVID-filled world & our inability to come together for public worship and fellowship.
â—‹ Psalm 56:3, Psalm 73:28, John 14:27, Romans 8:38-39

August 13th (Week Two) Love One Another- 1 JOHN 3:11,18

Pray for spiritual awareness to meet the needs of those around you—thinking about brothers and sisters in need within your Small Group or those whom the Lord brings to mind. Ask that God would give you a word to encourage them and lead you to do something actionable to bless them.

Secondary Focus:
● Prayer for local, state, and national leaders
â—‹ Proverbs 21:1, Job 12:23-25, 1 Timothy 2:1-4

August 20th (Week Three) Love Neighbor- MATTHEW 22:39

Our love for our neighbor is really  just an extension of our Love for God. That said, COVID has impacted individuals in our community at a disproportionate rate. Pray for opportunities to love and serve those in our community during this time. Living Faith will have opportunities for those who would like to serve. The entire Bible is about God’s mission which he shares with us to fulfill. COVID will not stop God’s mission.

Secondary Focus:
●  Prayer for being missional in a COVID-filled world. Also, pray for persecuted Christians and unreached people groups / nations
â—‹ Psalm 96:1-3, Romans 10:13-14, 1 Peter 4:10, Matthew 24:14

August 27th (Week Four) Love is our Life

Pray specifically that God would continue to transform you and Living Faith into a Gospel centered-community where Love is our Life, so that we will faithfully Love God, Love One Another & Love Neighbor.

Secondary Focus:
Pray for spiritual woundedness, racial inequities & social injustices in our community & world
â—‹ Micah 6:8, Psalm 82:3, Proverbs 21:8-9, Isaiah 1:17, Matthew 25:21-46, Zechariah 7:9-10, Jeremiah 22:3, Psalm 146:7-9â €

Types of Fasts

We're looking forward to this time we'll spend together as a church crying out to our God. Below you'll find different types of fasts you can incorporate during your time in the month of August. God Bless.
Complete Fast
In this type of fast, you drink only liquids, typically water with light juices as an option.

Selective Fast
This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.

Partial Fast
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown.

Soul Fast
This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance. For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.

We exist to guide people to Christ so they will know him and be changed into his likeness.

Vision

Tampa’s urban community needs gospel-centered, culture-impacting, doctrine-teaching, life-transforming churches targeting the mis-churched, un-churched, and under-churched.
